A: Attendance School hours are from 8:15 to 3:00.
When your child is absent from school, parents are required to send in a note or email the following day stating the reason for the absence. Please include the date(s) of the absence.
B: Birthdays You may send in birthday party invitations ONLY if every child in the classroom has an invitation. I will put them in daily folders ONLY if everyone is invited. (School policy) You may bring a treat for school if it is store bought & we will have it in the cafeteria after our lunch.
C: Conferences I will have conferences with all parents on second and third quarters. If concerns arise during the school year that cannot be handled over the phone or through email, an additional conference may be scheduled. First grade report cards are given out second, third and fourth quarters. Interim reports are sent home at the mid-quarter mark.
D: Discipline Students are expected to manage their own behavior and make good choices. If necessary, a parent/teacher conference will by call to create a behavior contract.
E: Email [email protected] I check my email every day before and after school.
F: Folders · Your child will bring home a Daily Folder containing some of his/her school work, homework, papers from the PTA and other school information. Please remove papers and return to school. If you need to communicate with me send a note through the folder.
G: Going Home If your child is going home in a different way than usual, I need to be informed in writing.
I cannot change the way your child goes home without permission from you. DO NOT send a change through email. I may not have time to check my email during the day.
H: Homework Written homework will be given each week. It should be a reflection of your child’s neatest and best work. Every child is also required to read for at least 10 minutes each night. I will send home a new independent reading book Monday-Thursday. Record the title of the books you read to your child as well as the books he/she reads to you on the reading log. Homework should NEVER last more than 20 minutes per night!!
I: Independence It is important that you allow your child to walk to the classroom alone. It minimizes distractions, encourages independence and gives your child a feeling of confidence.
J: Journey Journey through our week… during the day we have a literacy block, math block, writer’s workshop, specials, lunch, social studies or science, snack, outside time, and lots of fun!!!
K: Keep in touch Please keep me informed of any email, phone, or address changes throughout the year. I would also appreciate being informed of any major changes outside of school that affect your child in class so I can best help.
L: Lunch You are welcome to eat lunch with your child any day. Please meet your child outside the cafeteria doors. There is no provision for your student to borrow lunch money at school. Child Nutrition Services will provide an "all you can eat" fruit and vegetable plate with a cup of water at no charge to the student at lunch.
M: Medication Your child will not be permitted to take any kind of medication at school without a doctor’s note. The medication must be in the prescribed bottle and dropped off at the office.
N: No valuables or toys are to be brought to school unless requested for a special activity.
O: Ownership Make sure your child brings his/her book bag to school everyday with his/her folder.
P: Personal Items Label all personal items brought to school, such as book bags, jackets, hats, etc., with your child’s name.
Q: Quality Work I expect your child to make every effort to produce high quality work and will encourage him/her to do so.
Questions- Please ask any questions. I firmly believe that we learn by asking questions. When you have a concern or question just ask!
R: Recess Please be sure that your child is wearing comfortable shoes and clothing appropriate for outside recess. Girls may want to wear shorts under a skirt. You may send a water bottle on exceptionally hot days.
S-Snack Please send in a healthy snack for your child each day.
Fruit, cheese and crackers, vegetables, or low sugar cereals are good choices for snack. I welcome donations of pre-packaged snacks for those students who do not have one from home. Water is available in the classroom, so there is no need for drinks unless it is a really hot day then water bottles are needed.
T: Tardy-This one is extra important to me. Your child will be marked tardy and must go to the office for a late slip if he/she enters the classroom after 8:15. Please make every effort to get your child to school on time every day. Tardies are marked on the report card.
U: Use the library Every day - The children who return their library book are allowed to exchange their book before school. In this way, they can have a new book to share every night.
V: Volunteers I do appreciate and will need parents to volunteer their help with special activities in the classroom and field trips. You must register on any WCPSS computer. Sign up sheets will be available in the library.
W: Work Together Let’s work together as a team to ensure that your child has a successful year. Take a few moments each day to look over the work your child brings home and discuss how he/she feels about it. A little extra practice on things that were done incorrectly or with some difficulty goes a long way!
X: Extra Special We will build a classroom family where every child is valued daily because we are extra special!!
Y: You – PLEASE be an advocate for your child by having him/her to come to school well rested, on time and with all needed materials. I can’t stress enough how much this gives your child a sense of well-being.
Z-Zero I have zero tolerance for bullying in my classroom. I will do all that is needed to see that your child feels safe, free to make mistakes, and respected.
We will have a wonderful year full of learning!
